block printing with natural dyes

Today I was able to visit Nandita, where at her workshop in Jaipur she does bloc printing and silk screening on fabric and paper.  She keeps all production in house and it was incredibly inspiring to talk with her about what she does, what the possibilities are, and life in general.

I was particularly interested in the resist block printing with natural dyes...the print is done with a cow dung mixture essentially and then the fabric is dyed in dyes made by fruits, vegetables, flowers, or roots, and lastly the print paste is taken off.
There are variations that will always occur in this type of printing, nothing will be the same, and colors might change or fade over time...and that is one reason I love this process and print making.
It is closer to the natural process of life and there will always end up being unexpected results.
